As usual, Directors, Parliamentarians, Lobbyists and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) from all over the world gather in Washington, D.C., in the still sunny mid-October.
And yet, there is nothing usual this year. International CSOs feel that under the Trump administration, Washington is no longer a place where you can walk freely, talk openly, or call to protest. “Shrinking spaces”, right in the US capital.
Therefore, we chose not to throw the usual World Bank Action Day. In past years, we took to the streets on the Friday of the annual meetings, with rallies, speeches and marches. We made sure we were heard in the towering buildings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.
So, will everything be silent? No way!
New ideas came up and civil society has a host of actions to put pressure on WB and IMF.
Please join the petition to World Bank and ADB against nuclear finance, watch out for the Digital Day of Action, forward letters from climate groups to governors and executive directors and check for the days of global action Stop the Harm! Cancel the Debt! Also, don’t miss events like the “Indigenous Voices on the Impact of Industrial Animal Agriculture”.
And the big thing: On Saturday, October 18, people across the US are rising up against the Trump administration’s cruelty, corruption, and power grabs. Join them at the #NoKings rally in DC.
